Pie On The Floor Visual Field

Pie on the floor defects usually coincide with damage to superior optic fibers of the parietal lobe.
Pie on the floor visual field. It is also commonly referred to as pie on the floor visual defect. Homonymous incongruous quadrantanopia pie in the floor defects localize post chiasmally along the visual pathway and are generally found in the superior optic radiations of the parietal lobe. Your eyes wont look to the left bc the frontal eye field is in the frontal lobe but the only visual fields that you can see is the contralateral visual field. How do you localize a pie in the sky visual field defect.
Visual field of the patient may not be affected resulting in an hh with macular sparing figure 1c figure 2. A superior quadrantanopia results from an insult to the optic radiation inferiorly in the temporal lobe resulting in a pie in the sky type of visual field defect figure 1d while an inferior quadrantanopia is caused by damage. It involves damage to the dorsal optic radiations parietal lobe through trauma or a middle cerebral artery infarction. Vision loss that involves only one fourth of the visual field in both eyes.
Remember also that visual input is processed in the contralateral hemisphere so a right sided visual defect localizes to the left hemisphere. Damage to primary visual cortex is just like damaging the optic radiations except for the macular sparing bc the macula has collater supply via mca if you have a pca stroke. While quadrantanopia can be caused by lesions in the temporal and parietal lobes it is most commonly associated with lesions in the occipital lobe. Also remember a lesion to the left side of the head is likely to give a right visual field defect and vice versa.
It can be associated with a lesion of an optic radiation. Well the visual field defect affects both eyes which tells you that it is behind the optic chiasm. The most common causes of homonymous visual field loss are stroke 69 trauma 13 tumor 11 brain surgery 2 and demyelinating lesions. Pie in the sky visual field temporal lobe lesion pie on the floor visual field parietal lobe lesion anytime the lesion is in both eyes think post chiasmal.
Quadrantanopia quadrantanopsia refers to an anopia affecting a quarter of the field of vision.
